Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has confirmed that assistant coach Carlos Nodar Paz has left the Buccaneers to join him at Egyptian giants Al Ahly. Riveiro and Paz departed South Africa on Wednesday evening, with the Spaniard set to be unveiled by Al Ahly within the next 48 hours.
In an interview with Robert Marawa on Radio947, Riveiro disclosed that Paz would continue to work with him at Al Ahly. "I'm traveling today with Carlos Nodar – a guy that joined me earlier this season in Spain first and then here in Johannesburg," he said.
Riveiro expressed his respect for Orlando Pirates' ongoing commitments, despite his early departure. "The fact that our chairman and the management allowed me to have an early departure doesn't mean that Orlando Pirates doesn't have important games," he added.
The new Al Ahly coach is set to be unveiled on Thursday, ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Riveiro is excited about the opportunity, saying, "I'm trying to find the energy... to make sure that tomorrow when it's time to start, I'm ready to go and give my best."
